Day 1: Casablanca
Landing is around 8 AM
First stop at Professor Brahimi’s house to enjoy a hearty Moroccan breakfast. Your taste pallet will feast on some superior Moroccan Culinary arts. This is a rare chance to catch your breath and unwind before we hit the ground running.
Exploring the city of Casablanca, the largest cosmopolitan city of Morocco by visiting:
- Organization that provide rehabilitation in the city of Casablanca and deliver some quick therapy techniques and equipment for them
- The impresssiveHassan II Mosque, the third largest mosque in the world.
- The ancient place Mohamed V, United Nations Square, designed by French architect Josef Marrasat, and the league of Arab States Park.
We will cap the day off with a short drive to one of the world’s most famous destinations, Marrakech. Dinner will be provided at the hotel in Rabat
A quick stroll in the city square depending how tired you are
Day 2: Casablanca - Rabat
After breakfast in the hotel, we will head out to Rabat. We will participate in a global health seminar with an official from the Moroccan Ministry of Health. We will also be received by Dr. Azzedine Ibrahimi from the University of Pharmacy and Medicine. Prof. Ibrahimi is a US educated professor who spent 10 years teaching and researching at the SUNY University in New York
You will also meet the faculty of the new OT program that will start in Rabat in September, 2017. (This program is in French)
This will be followed by lunch at the famous Dar Naji restaurant
Visit an inner city school where you will be distributing school supplies to kids of low income families and learning about the challenges that the Moroccan public school system.
Explore Morocco’s Capital. The tour will include:
- School for children with Down syndrome
- Prosthetics Center
- The old medina
- The picturesque Kasbah of the Oudayas and the Oudaya Gate built during the Almohades dynasty.
- The the Hassan Tower; the Challah built by the Merinids in the 12th and 13th centuries
- The Mausoleum of Mohamed V and the Hassan Tower
- The ramparts and walls of Mechouar that encompass the Royal Palace.
- The pottery market in Salé.
Day 3: Kenitra-
Breakfast at the hotel in Kenitra. You will be within a short distance to the Mehdia beach
You will be volunteering in the only nursing home in the city, children orphanage, rehabilitation clinic, and CP/autism clinic.
Few yards from the beach there is a famous Sidi Boughaba lake; a popular place for gentle hiking, with well-appointed walking trails in the forested hills around the lake.
“More than 200 species of birds have been spotted on the lake and many choose to winter or nest here – among them a number of rare or endangered species. This is one of the last places on earth where you can still see large numbers of marbled ducks, distinguished by the dark patch around their eyes. Other birds to look out for include the beautiful marsh owl (seen most often at dusk), crested coot, black-shouldered kite and greater flamingo.”
Back to the city of Kenitra for a visit to the old Medina for shopping and coffee
Drive to Fez and have dinner at the hotel as soon as you arrive to Fez possibly late. Room service is highly likely for dinner
Day 4: Kenitra- Fez
After breakfast we'll head out for a full day of exploring one of Morocco’s most fascinating imperial city and UNESCO’s designated world heritage. A very knowledgeable English speaking guide will be with you
- The tour of this world’s last surviving medieval city includes the old and new medinas both the Jewish and the Arab sections
- The King’s Palace courtyard
- A handful of religious schools (Madrasas) dating back to the 14th century
- The very first university in the world, Karaouiyine University
- The Najjarine Fountain
- The Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, one of Fez's most treasured site
- The famous tannery, where skins are cured and dyed in enormous vats
A meeting is scheduled with Dr. Abderrazak Hajjioui from Mohammed Ben Abdallah University and his students. This will be your chance to meet some local college students, engage with them, and build lasting relationships. This part of the trip is always a big hit. Many past students fondly recount the benefits of getting to network with and spend time with their peers in a more collegiate setting.
Finally we'll finish off the evening with a dinner at Palais Medina of Fez specialties while we take part in a spectacular folkloric show.
Day 5: Fez-Moulay Driss, Volubilis, Meknes-Fez
The first half of the day will be devoted to an exploration of Morocco’s fascinating Imperial Cities. Then you’ll visit the archaeological site of the Roman ruins at Volubilis, a UNESCO world heritage site that was only excavated in the latter part of the 19th century. The holy city of Moulay Driss Zarhoun, the resting place of Morocco’s founding father.
A quick stop at the imperial city of Meknes, founded in the 9th century. A visit of this imperial city includes the old ramparts, Bab El Mansour, one of the most beautiful gates in Morocco; and the Moulay Ismail mausoleum, one of the very few holy sites in Morocco, which may be visited by non-Muslims.

Lunch will be served at the prestigious Terrab restaurant in Meknes just before we head back to Fes.
Upon arriving to Fes, you’ll visit a local orphanage housing abandoned children. A brief talk about kids born out of wedlock, unwed mothers, and Moroccan society We will distribute clothing and spend some time visiting with some of the children.
You will also be given a tour of the in house OT and PT facility. Students are asked to write a quick needs assessment report and brainstorm on sustainable way of staffing the facility. Staffing has proven to be a challenge both in terms of lack of skills and absence of funding.
Our day will come to an end with a special treat (Moroccan Garb highly recommended)
- Dinner in the awe inspiring Riad Al Amine on some culinary specialties
- We’ll get a chance to go behind the scenes and enjoy a quick cooking lesson
- A Henna artist will be on hand for anyone interested in getting a henna tattoo
- A Moroccan band will set the mood for the evening

Day 6: Fez-Ifrane–Azrou–Midelt–Erfoud–Merzouga
You will head out very early in the morning for a full day drive across the cedar forests of the Middle and High Atlas ranges and into the desert. The Oasis of Erfoud, situated among the impressive sand dunes of the Sahara Desert. This is one of the largest oases in Morocco.
Here we’ll have a working lunch. A seminar to introduce the culture and people of Morocco. It will cover the racial, religious, and cultural diversity of the Moroccan people.
From Erfoud we’ll travel approximately one and a half hours by 4-wheel drive vehicles to Merzouga.
From Merzouga, a short drive will take you to your Bedouin camp on the edge of the Sahara Dunes. After settling in to your bivouac tent you will have the opportunity to enjoy a camel ride to explore the area further (camels are fitted with Mauritanian saddles for maximum comfort). And experience Bedouin life first-hand as you spend a night of adventure under the vast Saharan sky. Dinner and a show at the camp.

Day 7: Erfoud–Tinghir-Todgha Gorges–Ouarzazate
you will depart to the foothills of the High Atlas on the way to the south’s most picturesque attractions; valley’s that drain snow melt off the mountains and into the Sahara. We’ll visit Todgha Gorges with its spectacular 1800 feet deep gorge. We’ll cross through the Kelaa’t Mougouna where roses for making perfume are planted. “Paris” the famous perfume by Yves Saint Laurent is made from the extract of these roses. You’ll find some nice shopping here for rose products such as rose water, dried petals etc…
You will drive about 20 Kilometers outside of to volunteer at a makeshift clinic. This is a rural community where inhabitants suffer from back pain. Put your skills to work for about 3 hours
From here we’ll drive the 1000 Kasbahs road, and end the day in the movie capital of Morocco Ouarzazate (Moroccan Hollywood).
We will visit a local nonprofit organization led by some doctors and therapists that provide support to children with disabilities.
Day 8: Ouarzazate–Ait Ben Haddou-Tichka–Marrakech
Start the day by visiting one of the famous studios of Ouarzazate. Visit the Kasbah of Tifoultoute, and then stop at the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah; a fortified adobe village protected by UNESCO. This site has served as the setting of numerous movies and TV shows such as “Laurence of Arabia,” “Romancing the Stone,” and “Game of Thrones.”
Continue your drive across the High Atlas on the breathtaking road of the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass.
This area is known for its spectacular views. It's also tucked away in the high Atlas where will run a clinic for few hours before we make our to Marrakech. Villagers in this area are too isolated from the city and getting any sort of health care is rare and almost fully dependent on health care caravans like ours. Get ready to put your skills to work
You will arrive to Marrakech by Mid-day. Grab a quick lunch then spend the afternoon touring the old city ramparts and visiting the Menara gardens.
Day 9: Marrakech
An English speaking tour guide will take you on a half-day historical sightseeing tour of the city. Some of the most visible stops are:
- The old medina, buried within the imperial walls.
- The famous Koutoubia Minaret, a masterpiece of Islamic architecture
- The Kasbah, the 16th-century monument site of the Saadian Tombs.
- The wonderful Hispano-Moresque architecture surrounding the burial grounds of the royal family.
- The aristocratic Bahia Palace with its lush Moorish-style courtyard garden and beautifully painted residential rooms.
- Finally, stroll through the world famous Jemaa El Fna Square; an open air theatre with singers, story tellers, fortune tellers, snake charmers and street entertainers.
- Tour the medical facility
- Get hands on experience working with adult and children mainly diagnosed with TBI, Stroke, MS, Spinal Cord Injury, and Cerebral Palsy.
- Network with your Moroccan peers with the intention of establishing an online platform where knowledge and information can be exchanged on a regular base.
Day 10: Marrakech
Breakfast at the hotel and on with the day
- You will have a chance to meet more patients at the MAIR Clinic
- You should take advantage of this stop and put on your researcher hat and collect any primary data. Individually, collectively, or in a groups or two, students should be thinking about publishing on topic germane to Morocco and the challenges facing the future of OT in Morocco
- Start the afternoon with a scenic drive to Ourika and follow the road to the waterfalls of Seti Fatma Lunch will be served by the river in one of the many Berber restaurants popular in this area.
- Visit a botanical garden housed in a restored Kasbah.
- You are finally going to be able to brag about having hiked the famous high Atlas Mountain.
You are highly encouraged to submit a blog entry about what you saw and/or who you met in Morocco. The piece has to be very reflective and well written. The winner earns a prize and the winning entry will be featured on the trip’s site as well as published on other sites
Late in the afternoon, we’ll head to Casablanca. You’ll visit the Old Medina and then the Morocco Mall and juxtapose the two places to appreciate the co-existence of both modern and traditional Morocco. Finally after dinner we will take a stroll in the famous Ain Diab neighborhood
Day 11: Casablanca-Fly Home
After breakfast in Casablanca, we’ll make a quick visit to a Hammam/Spa. This is a “Must do” for anyone visiting Morocco. A Hammam is a steam room, similar to a Turkish bath, where Moroccans habitually go each week to cleanse themselves. This is the Moroccan version of a full spa treatment but only much better.
On the way to the airport we will stop at local private elementary school.
Then we’ll transfer to Mohamed V airport for the flight home.

Dancers, musicians, acrobats and horsemen will bring you to the exhilaration

After breakfast, you will get a chance to volunteer at Clinic Moulay Ali.

We’ll cross through the Kelaa’t Mougouna where roses for making perfume are planted. “Paris” the famous perfume by Yves Saint Laurent is made from the extract of these roses. You’ll find some nice shopping here for rose products such as rose water, dried petals etc…
From here we’ll drive the 1000 Kasbahs road, and end the day in the movie capital of Morocco Ouarzazate (Moroccan Hollywood).
Day 9: Ouarzazate–Ait Ben Haddou-Tichka–Marrakech 11th
Start the day by visiting one of the famous studios of Ouarzazate. Visit the Kasbah of Tifoultoute, and then stop at the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah; a fortified adobe village protected by UNESCO. This site has served as the setting of numerous movies and TV shows such as “Laurence of Arabia,” “Romancing the Stone,” and “Game of Thrones.”
Continue your drive across the High Atlas on the breathtaking road of the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass.
You will arrive to Marrakech by Mid-day. Grab a quick lunch then spend the afternoon touring the old city ramparts and visiting the Menara gardens.
Visit the prosthetic center that’s right across the street from the restaurant
Dinner at the hotel and then on to a special evening at Chez Ali. Chez Ali show is considered to be one of the highlights of a visit to Marrakech. Enjoy a traditional outdoor Moroccan folklore evening with a Fantasia show. Fantasia is a feast of colors and sound representing all different regions of Morocco. Dancers, musicians, acrobats and horsemen will bring you to the exhilaration
Day 10: Marrakech 12th
After breakfast, you will get a chance to volunteer at Clinic Moulay Ali.
- Tour the medical facility
- Get hands on experience working with adult and children mainly diagnosed with TBI, Stroke, MS, Spinal Cord Injury, and Cerebral Palsy
- Network with your Moroccan peers with the intention of establishing an online platform where knowledge and information can be exchanged on a regular base
After lunch, an English speaking tour guide will take you on a half-day historical sightseeing tour of the city. Some of the most visible stops are
- The old medina, buried within the imperial walls.
- The famous Koutoubia Minaret, a masterpiece of Islamic architecture
- The Kasbah, the 16th-century monument site of the Saadian Tombs.
- The wonderful Hispano-Moresque architecture surrounding the burial grounds of the royal family.
- The aristocratic Bahia Palace with its lush Moorish-style courtyard garden and beautifully painted residential rooms.
- Finally, stroll through the world famous Jemaa El Fna Square; an open air theatre with singers, story tellers, fortune tellers, snake charmers and street entertainers.
Day 11: Casablanca-Fly Home 13th
After breakfast in Casablanca, we’ll make a quick visit to a Hammam/Spa. This is a “Must do” for anyone visiting Morocco. A Hammam is a steam room, similar to a Turkish bath, where Moroccans habitually go each week to cleanse themselves. This is the Moroccan version of a full spa treatment but only much better.
On the way to the airport we will stop at local private elementary school.
Then we’ll transfer to Mohamed V airport for the flight home.
